Risograph & Letterpress
One of a kind, made at Stanford’s Community Print Shop.
Stanford has a community print shop that recently unearthed a risograph printer and a letterpress from a storage unit in Freemont. Risograph printing is a stencil-based method: each color is its own stencil, and you layer translucent inks on top of one another, one pass at a time. For the letterpress, you hand-set type and pull each impression by hand. On both letterpress and riso, no two prints are ever identical.

I love how digital graphic design translates onto the riso. For both mediums, you’re never really sure how it’s going to turn out until that first pass. Save misprints for test paper!
